Errant Pentecostal Doctrines And False Apostles And Prophets Introduction
The problem of false apostles and prophets. Why talk about this subject?
We must address this problem because it was a plague in the early church, a very big problem even in Paul’s days, and in regard to the foundation of the church as it has been throughout the history of the church and unfortunately it is today in an alarming proportion.
This was a problem since the Old Testament days with those who always wanted to usurp the office of spokesmen for God. These people though were never chosen by God to bring forth the truth of His word and the message He was revealing.
At this point I want to say a very important thing. I have nothing at all personally against my brothers and sisters who are Pentecostal and Charismatic. I want you to know I love you, and a part of the reason I am writing this is because I want to communicate to you the truth in love with the truth of what the word of God really teaches in regard to many things that disagree with Pentecostal and Charismatic doctrines, with the love of God that wants His truth to set us free from errors that can harm us and others spiritually.
Perhaps many of you already know that I have many disagreements with Pentecostal doctrines, and yet I decided for several years to be a part of a Pentecostal church, although I no longer do, but why?
Well, you know that today there is much talk of division and fraction in the body of Christ, and indeed there is. Unfortunately, there is much conflict between brothers and sisters of different doctrinal views. It is believed by many that we cannot co-exist in a church with different doctrinal beliefs.
I decided instead to prove this theory wrong. I wanted to demonstrate that the love of God in me could and will go beyond the spiritual pride there can be in us. The love of God can unite us instead of dividing us. Obviously, I could not expect to travel this road alone; and my brothers and sisters of Pentecostal/Charismatic views I thought have to also walk in love and not make doctrine always an issue that divides.
However, having said this, I have not only the right but especially the duty toward God and His word to say what I am convinced that His word teaches us, the proper interpretation of Scripture confirms that many Pentecostal doctrines are erroneous.
Love is the fulfillment of the law for sure, but the truth in love must be said. Doctrine, many say, divides and is not important only love is. However, for these this is their view until you touch their doctrine.
The moment you do, the love disappears, the division arrives, they exclude you from their churches and fellowship. But they insist that love is more important.
Well, I disagree. Sound doctrine does divide the truth from error but not people who are willing to humbly learn to know the truth of God’s word, and biblical love rejoices in the truth 1 Corinthians 13:6 , the truth must be said in love but it must be said Ephesians 4: 14-15.
It would not be loving to continue to allow brothers and sisters to walk in error.
I pray and hope that all my Pentecostal brothers and sisters in Christ do not become offended by this teaching but instead can, with humility, put aside all prejudice and preconceptions of God’s word to the point it could hinder them from fairly discerning whether or not what is being said is true or not. I shared myself in service and fellowship and respectfully tolerated manifestations and teachings with which I am not in agreement, I also think that you could humbly read and try to understand the views that will be brought forth here knowing that these are my convictions and views, views of a person that does not agree with what you believe.
I believe that these views are not only my views but what the word of God really teaches.
By God’s grace and love we walked with those who see it differently regarding many things.
A time came though, when the “love” no longer seemed to be enough and you know what? It really is not because the love of God walks together with the truth of God and when you firmly strongly believe certain things to be the truth one cannot compromise the truth for something one believes is counterfeit.
Loving someone does not mean that one cannot love another and disagree but you cannot walk together in the same community, you cannot teach there because you are not allowed to teach what you believe to be the truth. You also cannot stand watching your brothers and sisters being taught deception and false doctrine that are detrimental to their spiritual life. Because of these reasons and others as well we decided to leave the Pentecostal movement for good.
Now, before anyone accuses me about not believing in the power of God, I want to say immediately that if you think that about us you are misunderstanding what I am saying in this study.
I firmly believe in the Omnipotence of God and that He still heals today in supernatural ways. God is ALL POWERFUL.
He can do whatever He pleases, when He pleases, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE for Him.
God is sovereign and it is He that decides by His perfect will what to do and when, by His perfect wisdom and knowledge. God is not obligated to heal when we think He should, neither is He obliged to do what we ask Him if He does not retain that to be the best thing for that circumstance.
I believe that Scripture confirms that God answers every believer’s faith, especially those who are endowed with the spiritual gift of faith, 1 Corinthians 12:9 as they access even more effectively through the Spirit in the knowledge of His will, and God will provide, obviously to honor such prayers of faith.
I do believe in the gift of faith in which God operates to answer the prayers of faith and of who lives in humility and not in rebellion to His word.
You also must know that I did, for a period, believe in some of the Pentecostal doctrines, but after having studied the word of God for many years and having learned to understand it better and learned to interpret it better, by God’s grace and Spirit, I have arrived at different conclusions than the Pentecostal ones.
However, for this reason, unfortunately myself and all who believe the way I do are sometimes labeled heretics and divisive, especially in the hyper-pentecostal circles.
This treatise was started for the purpose of bringing to the light of God’s word the problem of false apostles and prophets, but then I had to expand it because I realized that connected to this subject there are other Pentecostal/Charismatic teachings and doctrines that have to be confronted because unfortunately they are connected to the erroneous and false doctrines of the false apostles and prophets.
I recognize also that many charismatic denominations, in fact probably all of them, believe that the offices of apostle and prophet are still as active today as they were in the apostolic era.
This treatise is also designed to eliminate biblical misunderstandings that bring to the erroneous conclusions that these offices are still in operation today in the same way they were then.
It is important, however, that it is understood that this teaching is not against the people who unfortunately having been biblically trained in a certain way believe erroneous doctrines and believe therefore that there are apostles and prophets with the same spiritual authority and mission and miracles like the ones who founded the church.
The Bible will confirm instead that the office of Apostle of Christ and prophet, the way they are described in the Bible, are not in operation today as they were during the time of the Acts of the Apostles.
The word of God tells us to study to show ourselves approved unto God, as workers who need not to be ashamed and that are able to rightly divide the word of truth. This commandment Paul gave to Timothy and I take it seriously at heart as well.
I recognize that to do this means that we have to really put a lot of effort into being workers who work hard in wanting to really know and understand the whole council of God. A worker should work hard and put a great deal of effort into doing his work, so it is with us when it comes to the word of God.
If, indeed, we really want to know and understand correctly so we are able to rightly divide the word of God so that we can dispel errors and the purity of the word of God can once more be restored and bring honor and glory to God, we cannot take for granted all the time that what people teach us from the word of God is really what the whole word of God teaches us and reveals.
We have to have a more noble spirit as the Bible tells us the men of Berea had, who were not satisfied just believing what Paul told them, and searched the Scriptures to see if what was being said to them was the truth. They did not proudly refuse what Paul said, like many did. They did not blindly accept what he said either. Instead they went to see if the word of God confirmed what was being said.
Only false teachers, apostles, and prophets are threatened by someone checking up on Scripture according to what they say and teach. I am not afraid. Test what I teach, if you can clearly demonstrate that what I teach is not in agreement with God’s word and instead what you believe agrees more with God’s word, I will leave the debate open.
However, I firmly believe that if one is honest with themselves it will be clear that what the Bible really teaches is not what Pentecostals believe about certain doctrines and that the argument is closed.
Acts 17:11-12 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. 12 Therefore many of them believed, and also not a few of the Greeks, prominent women as well as men.
So I pray that you would be fair-minded as well and that you humbly read the content of this teaching with an open heart to God and search the Scriptures to examine if that which is being taught is what the Scripture really confirms, and if it passes the scrutiny and the examination of the word of God. I can guarantee you that it will pass and please remember the exhortation.
2 Timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
